It was an interesting game with the first half no goals, but England showed promise. It was a little entertaining with a couple of chances on either side.
Also noted was the fact that the Argentinian players played dirty and simulated.
By half-time, the game was 0 – 0 and uneventful. After 55 minutes, Gordon scored, giving England a 1 – 0 lead. But with time ticking away, the Argentines started to up the ante and spent most of their time in the England half.
The manager, though, Thomas Tuchel, made a mistake and substituted 3 forward players for 3 full backs.
Finally, the Argies broke us down, and Fernandez scored 85 minutes in, then seven mins later Martinez scored, giving us the final score.
But what’s going on with international and club-level football playing from the back? What happened to everyone moving forward, and the goalie kicks it in the other half?
Today’s goal keepers mess about like big girls rolling the ball to players who are right back to them and letting them work the ball up the field. Even when the opposing team players are in dangerous positions, goalkeepers still do it.
It’s not an evolution of football; it’s a joke. In the last 10 mins of the game, England attacked with everyone up and Jordan Pickford kicking the ball long for a change.
This passing-back culture is ridiculous. Players have the ball in the other side’s half, then the passing back gets the ball back to their own goalie in their own half. It’s common knowledge attack is the best form of defence.
So why couldn’t they have spent the second half playing like the last 10 minutes of the game instead of looking like cowering dogs?
Also, had England not done their homework on Argentina versus Egypt, the Egyptians were 2 goals up with 15 mins to go, and all of a sudden, after a mediocre game, Argentina played like madmen, like a team and scored 3 goals in 15 minutes.
One of the other points was the refereeing. Were we cheated, because it seems the match was rigged for Messi and Argentina with ungiven fouls. If so, this was down to FIFA.
Well, we were robbed. All the fouls not given didn’t help. But having no answer in the last section of the match did not help. We believed the one goal was enough, but sitting back cost us the match.
