Manchester United 5–2 Ipswich Town
After an opening-week shock defeat, Manchester United produced an emphatic response at Old Trafford. The home side found themselves behind early when Leif Davis put promoted Ipswich Town ahead in the 29th minute. However, Bruno Fernandes led the charge for United, equalising in the 40th minute before putting them ahead from the penalty spot just after the hour mark.
A Jacob Greaves own goal following pressure from Harry Maguire extended United’s advantage before Fernandes completed his hat-trick with a composed finish in the 68th minute. Bryan Mbeumo chipped home United’s fifth, and while Chuba Akpom bagged a late stoppage-time consolation for Ipswich, the night belonged to United.
Chelsea 4–3 Brighton & Hove Albion
In one of the most entertaining matches of the young season, Chelsea edged past Brighton in a seven-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea blew out to a quick lead as Roméo Lavia opened the scoring in the fourth minute, followed shortly by Pedro Neto doubling the advantage. João Pedro added a third for Chelsea inside 32 minutes.
Brighton refused to throw in the towel. Malick Yalcouyé pulled one back before the break, and an own goal by João Pedro cut Chelsea’s cushion to just one goal. Cole Palmer struck a brilliant curling finish in the 74th minute to restore safety for the Blues, which proved crucial after Pascal Groß scored with the last kick of the game in stoppage time.
Liverpool 2–2 Nottingham Forest
Anfield bore witness to a tense battle as Liverpool were held to a 2–2 draw by a resilient Nottingham Forest side. Dan Ndoye opened the scoring for the visitors midway through the first half. Liverpool hit back in the second period through Alexander Isak to restore parity at 1–1.
Forest retook the lead 70 minutes in when Morgan Gibbs-White cleanly converted a penalty. Just as it seemed Forest were bound for a memorable away victory, Daniel Muñoz popped up in the 82nd minute to grab a crucial equaliser and rescue a point for Liverpool.
Tottenham Hotspur 0–2 Newcastle United
Newcastle United produced a sharp, professional away display to sweep aside Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. After a tight first hour of football, Anthony Elanga broke the deadlock for Newcastle in the 62nd minute. Ten minutes later, Yoane Wissa doubled the lead, sealing all three points for the Magpies and leaving Spurs empty-handed at home.
Sunderland 1–0 Fulham
At the Stadium of Light, Sunderland secured their first victory since returning to the top flight with a hard-fought win over Fulham. In a game of tight margins, second-half substitute Wilson Isidor broke through Fulham’s high defensive line in the 76th minute, turning in Habib Diarra’s cross to claim all three points for the Black Cats.
Leeds United 1–1 Brentford
Elland Road saw a gritty, physical clash end in a 1–1 draw. Brentford controlled much of the first period and earned a deserved lead when Kevin Schade produced a lovely strike in the 41st minute. Leeds pushed heavily in the second half and were finally rewarded in the 79th minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin bundled in from close range to secure a point.
AFC Bournemouth 1–1 Everton
Bournemouth and Everton shared the spoils in a dramatic encounter at the Vitality Stadium. Alex Scott placed Bournemouth ahead four minutes before halftime, and the Cherries appeared set to hold out for a narrow 1–0 win. However, in deep stoppage time, Everton defender James Tarkowski rose highest to head home a 91st-minute equaliser.
Coventry City 0–1 Hull City
In a clash between two promoted sides, Hull City continued their dream start to the campaign by taking a tight 1–0 win at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Neither team gave up much space, but Liam Millar made the breakthrough for Hull in the 82nd minute to ensure back-to-back victories for the visitors.
Crystal Palace 1–4 Manchester City
Manchester City put on a masterclass at Selhurst Park on Friday evening, cruising to a comfortable away victory. Erling Haaland was in clinical form, scoring twice, while Rayan Cherki contributed two goals of his own to cap off an expansive attacking display. An own goal from Gianluigi Donnarumma provided Palace’s lone consolation.
